WHAT DOES THE ORA DO FOR YOU? |
|
| An annual State Conference. The conference includes keynote speakers, authors, workshops, small group presentations and exhibits by publishers and local councils, all combined to stimulate ideas and enthusiasm for promoting literacy. A Newsletter—The ORAcle is published quarterly, featuring information on activities of local councils and related organizational events and articles of interest. A Council Development Fund has been established. Newly formed local councils may apply for funds to bring in speakers for programs and projects in their areas of the state. Literacy Awards are presented annually to individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions to literacy in Oregon. ORA supports Newspaper in Education Week (NIEW) Sponsored by IRA and American Newspaper Publishers Association in March. ORA sponsors Love of Reading Week in February. ORA coordinates speakers and presentations for local councils on topics such as readers' Theatre and Young Author's Conferences. ORA distributes California Author Video Tapes. ORA encourages parent involvement in reading by developing materials for distribution throughout the state. ORA's special committees work to keep members abreast of current trends, to involve parents, and to provide a network among local councils. ORA is a communication network for local IRA councils and all persons in the field of reading. |
